Fine motor skills

My little one loves stickers (currently 20months). She finds the larger stickers easier to handle but is starting to develop the fine motor skills for the small stars. This is an activity is good for her fine motor skills and for copying patterns.
I have made a simple pattern of stars on Word and brought a cheap packet of stars from Wilkos (55p for 500+)

This can also be used to learn shapes and and colours.

Stickers on there own are great but I find that once they have enjoyed the initial excitement of stickers the activity can lack direction so these ideas provide more focused tasks.

Colour matching

I love thinking up creative ideas of things to do with my pre-schooler.
My little one is currently 19months. She is starting to develop her preferences and is enjoying more structured activities. As a primary school teacher I love getting imaginative with my little one in an educational way so I have decided to blog these ideas so I can map what I get up to with her as well as share ideas people might like to try too.
Enjoy!

This idea is very simple. I just brought some coloured paper and coloured stickers from Wilkos (10 sheets of heart stickers for 55p) and cello-taped some strips of paper together. Conveniently the coloured paper and the coloured sticker in the pack were the same. My little one like most children loves stickers of any kind and loved matching the colours.

This picture is colour matching using felt squares and Velcro. I added a magnet to the back and stuck it in on the fridge.

Jigsaw boxes.
Matching the shape and colour.
I also play another version of this game with my little one where we hide items of the specific could in the correct box

This was a funny (but messy) colour matching I did with my daughter. I coloured in the rainbow arch with crayons and she stuck the correct coloured squares on. This went down really well with my 23month old as she loves glue!
